LunaLupa

Melina has been a long time friend and client of mine! We met a month after I started Bear Branded and worked together on what was originally a Squarespace Ecommerce store (this site was one of the many reasons I chose not to build stores in Squarespace anymore) before transitioning to Shopify over a year later.

When we met, Melina was on Etsy where she was paying a listing fee, a 5% transaction fee and having to pay a percentage in shipping charges. She wanted a site that was more personal than an Etsy store, something that felt like her and her brand. Her business name LunaLupa inspired a darker, witchy site to showcase her images and function as a platform to sell her goods! Below are her analytics transitioning from Etsy to Squarespace, and then over to Shopify.

The first measure of a site’s analytics would be the pageviews and visits. Below is a comparison of Melina’s last month on Etsy, and her first month on her own site. Compare total views with pageviews and you’ll see that the number has grown 47% is just one month. You can also see the difference between site visits now and then - a rate of growth of 35%! Next, traffic sources are another important tool for the analysis of a site’s performance. In Melina’s case, her social media traffic grew from 486 visits to 998 visits. That growth rate is 105% with no changes other than a professional website. The next analytic shows the breakout of her social traffic, with almost all of it coming from Instagram.

Almost exactly a year after we had originally created Melina’s Squarespace website, we began running into commerce-related issues. She would release collections and the sudden influx of traffic and people all attempting to buy the same piece would result in site crashes, pieces showing sold out that were still available, and interrupted cart sessions. These were major issues, and in order to solve them we decided to move to Shopify. Compared to Squarespace, her Shopify design resulted in easy integrated shipping with discounts offered through Shopify, additional flexible sale options, and the integration of AfterPay. AfterPay is an amazing application that allows shoppers to buy an item, and split the cost into 4 interest free payments.
